Mental Health Mates Beverley was formed in March 2019 and has grown into a wonderful peer support community group for people of all ages. In the last 4 years we have welcomed many walkers who found the confidence to come along, walk, talk and share their story to help others. MHM Beverley holds regular walks in the local area and works closely with East Riding Council, Andy's Man Club Goole, Longcroft School, HMP Humber, Morrisons, Tesco, One Stop shop and many other amazing groups and businesses. Last year we were lucky enough to be able to register as a constituted community group, which enabled us to access local funding to help with promotional materials, refreshments for the walks and activities for the group. To help raise awareness of the group TMX have kindly produced a small range of MHM Beverley clothing, with £2.00 from every purchase going towards Mental Health Mates.
Mental Health Mates provides a safe place for people to come together and connect without fear or judgement, creating a supportive network for people experiencing mental health challenges and an opportunity to turn negative experiences into positive ones. MHM provides a healing environment, but it is not therapy. We are not experts in mental illness, but have endless personal experience in it. It is peer support at its finest: we have seen people thrive though our walks, not to mention forming friendships that help people move forward and grow.
Walking - Exercise is proven to improve mental health, just 20 minutes walking improves mood. Walking is often the first step in getting more active and introducing exercise and activity into your life.
Talking - Telling someone how you are feeling is a critical step in getting help and feeling better. Sharing with others who understand what you are going through is a game changer in feeling more positive and able to reach out for long term help
Community - People who are more socially connected to a community are happier, physically healthier and live longer, with fewer mental health problems. Our MHM community is thriving and provides our members with vital support.
